Angola’s oil and gas exploration is surging into uncharted territory thanks to landmark deals signed between Azule Energy and the National Agency for Oil, Gas and Biofuels. Risk Service Contracts (RSCs) for three offshore blocks – 46, 47, and 18/15 – mark a significant step towards unlocking Angolan energy potential.
This venture, backed by the combined expertise of Eni and bp’s Angolan assets, sees Azule leading exploration across all three blocks. Partnering with Equinor and Sonangol in Blocks 46 and 47, and Sonangol in Block 18/15, the consortium covers a vast 8,700 square kilometers.
“Blocks 46 and 47 are virgin territory,” declared Adriano Mongini, CEO of Azule Energy. “This is a game-changer for both our company and Angola’s energy future. Block 18/15, meanwhile, holds the potential to unlock new plays and leverage existing production facilities in Block 18, maximizing synergies.”
These RSCs add fuel to Angola’s deepwater exploration boom, solidifying its long-standing allure for International Oil Companies (IOCs). The Lower Congo Basin, boasting some of Angola’s biggest oil and gas reserves, already hosts key developments like Azule’s Agogo and Greater Plutonio fields, and TotalEnergies’ CLOV field, alongside established production infrastructure.
